3 skills every PR professional must have

If you are a Media and Communications student, you must have, at some point or the other, dreamt of working with a top class Public Relations company. As the technology advances, and the world becomes more and more connected, the organizations have become largely dependent on the earned media to communicate with their target audiences.
The reason why earned media is preferred over social media and other online blogs and websites is that it has a certain level of credibility. People are more accepting of the information they receive via the mainstream media outlets because these platforms are consumer centric and not owned by a particular brand. These media outlets publish stories that ring with the common people and give them something of value. Hence, communicating via these platforms is more beneficial for the business organizations.
There are many PR agencies in Delhi that have the personnel that can generate stories that are worth picking up by the mainstream media platforms. Since the businesses have become largely dependent on PR to retain and increase their customer base, there has also been an explosion in the demand for PR professionals who can help them achieve their desired goals. If you are among those aspirants who want to become a part of this booming industry, then there are a few things that you should know about and prepare yourself accordingly.
  1. Being able to write
While there are a plenty of PR roles that do not require an individual to write articles and press releases extensively but knowing how to write well is still an important skill that every PR professional must possess. In fact, there are a number of PR agencies in Delhi that have made the writing test a pre-requisite for clearing the interview. Your interviewer can give you a topic on the spot and ask you to write a pre-event or a post-event press release or a value proposition. Therefore, if you’re planning to secure a role in a reputed PR firm, you should start polishing your writing skills.
  1. Knowing how to speak and write English
Being the universal language, English is the preferred language for communication in the corporate industry – oftentimes out of necessity. If you are dealing with a client who is from a different country, you cannot expect to hold a conversation in your native language. Therefore, having a command over spoken and written English is a must for a PR professional. PR firms in Delhi and all across the country value candidates who have excellent communication skills and good command over English language. At the end of the day, PR is all about communication and those who excel at it will naturally have an edge over others.
  1. Persuasiveness and multitasking
Forget about the plate being full – with PR companies, it’s always overflowing. Therefore, as a PR professional, you must be adept at multitasking. Whether it is writing a press release within a short deadline or convincing a reporter that just wouldn’t crack, you should be ready for any role that is thrown your way.
If you can inculcate within yourself these three must have skills, you’ll be on your way to bagging a good position at one of the top PR agencies in Delhi and other metro cities of the country.
