New Social media rules could be a barrier to online free speech

The modern era is no doubt full of digital innovations but is continuously challenged by cybercriminals and fake news. For them, social media is the biggest weapon to widely spread misinformation everywhere. The story of India is no different. However, to overcome this issue, the Indian government has proposed new rules for social media platforms, which is further sparking free speech concerns across India, and especially among local advocacy groups.

The government has recently proposed to amend Section 79 of the country’s IT Act. This move will censor social media content, which is deemed inappropriate by the government. Now social media companies and PR agencies have to think twice before posting content on these platforms. It’s become a great concern for these companies as it may lead to massive losses and client rejections.

The law once amended, would mandate social media networks to provide users’ private messages to the government, if requested. Social media platforms will also need to send a monthly copy of privacy policies to users. It is envisioned that these new rules will become a barrier to online free speech. Many popular OTT platforms have already banned content that could be considered unauthorized in order to government censorship.

Unfortunately, there are no guidelines provided by the government on what content would be considered unlawful. Companies are, thus, experiencing tough times in releasing new video content, and many new releases are put on hold. Illegal content is likely to include content on child abuse, defamation, hate speech, rape imagery, etc.

This move has not been appreciated so far as many big players think that this could undermine end-to-end encryption and shake the balance that has been maintained for years. Many social media companies and PR agencies would be at unease, as the long submission procedures of the required documents as asked by the government would take a lot of time to get things done.

Undoubtedly, the government tried to stop the spread of misinformation across social media platforms, but the result could further lead to chaos and losses. Social media companies, PR agencies and businesses may face troubles once the new social media rules come into effect. Hope the government would relook into this move and accordingly make modifications to stop social media mishap in the future. India is a democratic country, and nobody should be prevented to conduct free online speech.

The popularity of social media through apps like Instagram and Snapchat, coupled with less data consuming versions of Facebook Mobile and Messenger, continues to take the mobile craze to an another level of amazement. With such strong mobile accessibility on board, thinking of mobile is one of the most important components of developing content strategies in social media companies in Delhi and around the world. Being a part of PR or SEO firms in Delhi, employees need to adequately create content suiting the behavioral patterns of the target audience.   On social media, the core idea of creating content is to make it consumer cohesive because if they can’t relate to the brand they won’t be interested in the products and services it will be offering.

Digital landscape is already cluttered with the mess created by crazy marketers and it’s advised to create an impact make sure that your PR and social media team is not into these practices, too. Instead the team should be spreading the idea of your brand and its products or services through content that has some value to be shared and looked at by the targeted audience.  Remember, the idea is not just about crowding up the digital space with irrelevant content but about creating relevance for the consumers and making them stop, act, watch, like, share, click, remember and share good words about your brand.

Keep An Eye On The Digital Advances To Stay Ahead In The Competition

In the race of becoming the fastest growing mobile market, India has already surpassed the US, last year. The rise of e-commerce, even as a career, is widely visible, with more and more people leaving their jobs and starting their entrepreneurial journey. The world is opening doors to more women entrepreneurs. The digital journey for India has just begun, and we are already seeing umpteen transformations.

The power of social media platforms and PR is rapidly magnifying and is recognized by social media companies and PR agencies to deliver quality to clients. However, companies should not only keep an eye on the evolving trends but also adapt to them ASAP to win in the digital race.

Here are some key trends to watch out for 2019:
Apps to lose their shine
The app stores in our smartphones are already flooded with numerous applications, leading to high uninstall rates, and frauds, too. In this situation, consumers should go for the progressive web app (PWA). The apps, which will pass the ‘Toothbrush Test’, will only be able to survive in today’s competition.

Combining AI with Social Media
AI has already started merging with many social media platforms. It gives image recognition to social media channels and also helps them in making auto recommendation of products. Clearly, AI is going to enhance the social media platforms; hence, PR agencies and social media companies should invest heavily and smartly in these advances, to deliver seamless customer experiences.

Content marketing will continue to play a critical role
Content has always played a significant role in marketing brands and promoting their products. However, as ads saturate on social media platforms, companies will have to craft content for brands in a more subtle manner.

Data security
Companies, as well as consumers, are doing multiple checks before sending any data, in the wake of increasing cyber crimes. The biggies like WhatsApp, Google and Facebook, will have to come out with newer techniques to ethically extract and share customer data, especially during election times.

The digital spread in Tier 4 cities and beyond
The rise of digital mediums in tier 4 cities and other such areas will increase the demand for voice search and video content, further leading to the growth of regional OTT content. Companies will be conducting marketing campaigns in rural and semi-urban areas with a focus, shifting from Mobile-first to Mobile-only.

More use of Amazon as a marketing platform
As Amazon is the starting point for consumers to search products, it comprises rich consumer data. PR agencies and social media companies will, thus, make more use of Amazon to promote the products of their clients. In the coming years, more and more businesses will utilize this platform to become successful.

Why Influencer marketing is gaining importance in the PR sector

As per the pattern of Public Relations (PR) trends around the globe, brands have adopted influencer marketing much more openly than any other trend, and on an average, more than $255 million are being flushed out for influencer marketing on Instagram. Apart from that the marketing and branding of a company through influencers on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube is also quite popular in the industry as per various PR Agencies in Delhi. Through the time, influencer marketing has spread across the sector exponentially and here are some of the critical reasons suggesting why PR firms in Delhi and around the world should focus more on social media influencers more in today’s stiff competition.

1.    Build consumer engagement and trust
Social influencers share a strong emotional connection and rapport with their audience, which builds up to be one of the most common reason as to why the audience engages more with their content, and trust them more than the seasoned marketing and PR professionals. In fact, contrary to the age-old marketing perception that celebrities, be it from entertainment fraternity, sports profile or political backgrounds hold the charm to sway mass opinion has diminished completely with the emerging trend of influencer marketing. Micro-influencers who are also known as local influencers) have now become more popular as their personalities and content resonate more with the audience’s mind. By collaborating with these influencers, it is possible for PR companies in Delhi to consistently produce higher engagement numbers for their client’s business through positive messages and pocket-friendly budgets.

2.    Create a unified customer experience
With the increasing demands of digital platforms and social media sites, people are consuming online content at all times. This demands a proactive content strategy close to the audience’s mind, and this is where influencers become an indispensable channel to activate. With the help of influencers, PR firms in Delhi can engage a brand’s customers across channels, locations, and time zones with adequate content that is both informative and useful for all.

3.    The chance to Get Creative
Let’s be honest millennials today don’t read brochures, reports, or press releases much but are spending around a total of nine hours browsing the internet, surfing social networking sites, using emails and texts, and on online forums. When it comes to the content consumption on online channels, close consideration is given to visuals, videos along with the text. Influencers know this very well and utilise the same through their creative touch to be closely engaged with their audience. It’s about PR companies in Delhi to get through to their client’s target audience by breaking the content clutter via digital marketing influencers.
